Gstaad Mountain Rides hiking paradise

The Gstaad holiday region with over 300 kilometres of sign-posted, well-maintained paths and trails is a genuine paradise for hikers. In a network that has many branches and thanks to the mountain railways and easily accessible public transport, there is something to suit every taste: from easy family walks to Nordic walking and longer hikes lasting one or more days.

The Rinderberg-Horneggli high-altitude walk is very popular. It starts at the Zweisimmen mountain station on the Rinderbergbahn. The route firstly goes in the direction of Gandlauenengrat and right from the start there are the most beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. From Gandlauenengrat, the route follows the signs to Parwengen, from where there is a fantastic view down into the Simmental. You then reach the Hornberg with its big mountain restaurant via a pleasant, high path. The field of view opens up in the direction of the Fribourg and Vaud Alps. You should then spot Schönried far below. The picturesque descent finally runs via Horneggli down to Schönried.

Walking time: approx. 3 h 5 mins.
Season: end of June to October
Incline: 70 m climb and 800 m descent

Cyclists and adventure-lovers: but it's not just the hikers that get their money's worth, as there are all kinds of things for fans of mountain biking and e-biking. Around 280 kilometres of sign-posted cycle routes, 500 kilometres of GPS tours and an electric bike system for enthusiasts open up the most beautiful corner of the holiday region of Gstaad.

A few highlights for the more adventurous:

  • Sledging and riding scooters on the Rellerli ("Schönried's sunshine mountain")
  • Scooter riding on the Rinderberg
  • Family fun on the Wispile (Gstaad)

Please note:

  • Bikes, pushchairs and dogs go free
  • The AlpnessTrail is a hiking trail with 13 stages over the Saanenland and Upper Simmental Alps
