Lötschen Valley - much nearer than you think
The Lötschen Valley lies sandwiched between the Bernese and Valais Alps. You can reach it from Bern by direct BLS train in just 1½ hours. There is a guaranteed direct PostBus connection in Goppenstein. Car drivers can access the Lötschen Valley using the car transport service between Kandersteg and Goppenstein.
The most beautiful valley head in the Alps
Unique flora and fauna, the homely, traditional villages and the most beautiful valley head in the Alps make the Lötschen Valley one of the most natural and unspoilt valleys in Valais. With 200 kilometres of marked hiking trails, the Lötschen Valley is a walker's paradise. The striking Bietschorn mountain, which is visible from far around and has an altitude of 3,934 metres, is the main peak in the Lötschen Valley and since 2001 has been part of the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Lötschen Valley is 30 kilometres long and therefore the biggest of the Valais tributary valleys.
The Lötschen Valley High Trail - with legends from the region
The Lötschen Valley Story Trail, which runs from the Lauchernalp mountain station up the Fafleralp, is particularly suitable for families. Ten different Lötschen Valley legends take you into a world of myths and fairy-tales. So virtually every noticeable stone, idyllic mountain lake or Alpine hut can boast a legend of its own. Surrounded by an imposing Alpine panorama, you will take the legends to heart. QR codes relating to legends can now be found on tree trunks. If you scan them with a smartphone, you can read the legends in German, French or English. The 9.1 kilometre long walk lasts approximately 2 hours 40 minutes and is also recommended in the opposite direction.
